Note to readers: This website is run by a single person (myself, Deborah Elizabeth Hemstreet, aka Dvora Elisheva). This is a standard policy; the use of “we” is the royal “we.” However, should I provide someone with access to this website to help me maintain it, they too will abide by this policy. I don’t believe in abusing data of any kind!

Email Subscriptions

If you have subscribed to hope-challenged.com you are also subscribed to dvoraelisheva.com and vice versa. Hope-challenged is my blog, and DvoraElisheva.com is my author website. I use your contact information ONLY to send you updates about my blog or author site. If you unsubscribe, your contact information is removed from both sites.

What personal data is collected and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on these sites, where enabled, the data shown in the comments form is collected. In addition, to aid in spam detection, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string is collected.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When you contact me through a form on either website, I collect the information you provide (such as your name and email address) solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry or sending updates you have requested. I do not share this information with third parties, and you may unsubscribe or request deletion at any time.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not have to re-enter your details when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, a temporary cookie is set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, several cookies are used to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand general site traffic. These tools collect anonymized, aggregated data and do not identify individual visitors. No personal data is shared and I will never share your personal data with anyone else!

How long your data is retained

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This ensures the site can automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments, rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on my website (if any), their personal information is stored in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (only the username cannot be changed). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data held about you, including any data you have voluntarily provided. You can also request that any personal data held about you be erased. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
